We all have endured a time in our life where we question if we’ve taken the right path in life. The truth is, your path IS the right path. No one person can take control over your destiny and the path you decide to travel for your life. For those who are questioning themselves, I have a few tips on how to better take control of your life.

  1. Belief and faith in yourself. Sometimes people get bogged down in the negativity and perils that life throws at us, however as cliché as it sounds, you are your biggest advocate. I believe that everyone is born with a gift or a talent, and it is up to you to decide how to use that gift. If you don’t believe in yourself then who will. Don’t let life drag you down, instead, bask in the joys and successes that come your way. Each day you wake up is another day for you to accomplish a goal that you’ve set for yourself. Sometimes, we can be our own worst critic and get wrapped up within our insecurities. You have to believe that you have the power to do whatever it is that you want to do. You can get the job you want, you can buy the house you’ve dreamed of or create the life you’ve always wanted. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day!

  1. Accountability. The ability to take ownership of your actions is a huge step in being able to control what happens in your life. Honesty is a branch of accountability and it’s a sure way for you to become respected. When you’re accountable for your actions at home it proves that you can be trusted, but when your accountable for your actions in the workplace it shows leadership that you are dependable. Altrusim is something that can’t be taught, its inherent. Be accountable for all the good, bad and indifferent actions you take because there’s a reason behind everything you do. In order for you to be the best you, you can be you need to know a few things. You need to know why you make the decisions that you make and do the things that you do. You also need to know that every action has a reaction or a consequence, and only someone who is truly accountable for themselves will be able to move upward through life honestly and respected.

  1. Structure and Discipline. Be the (wo)man with the plan! Structure and discipline in my opinion are imperative when trying to grasp a firm hold on your life. When you feel like you’ve spiraled out of control or your life is moving in a direction that you don’t want it to. Create a plan. There have been plenty of times where I’ve felt lost and unhappy in my predicament, but as soon as I sort out my thoughts and devise a plan that will work best for me, things begin to align. Create a list of things that you would like to accomplish, then create a list of ways of how you would be able to accomplish each of those things. Every little bit counts. Or maybe you need to go a little bit deeper and simply set aside to time to just THINK about the things that you want to accomplish before you can write them down. Whatever it is that you need to do in order to fix where you are in life or change you path, don’t be afraid to create a plan.
